I moved to Dundee start of October and bought a nice place in the city centre as I got a good graduate job up here. Things have been going very nicely in my new flat and I've been doing the usual things after you buy a place, lick of paint, new carpets etc. Anyway recently I noticed that on my way down the communal stair there has been a lot of litter and cigarette butts lying around, I thought it might be my neighbours so didnt think much of it. Then this morning left for work and found two homeless people asleep in the middle of the stair one floor down from me, was so shocked that I didn't wake them up and literally stepped over them. I called the police at lunch time (I know I should have called immediately) and they said get in touch quicker next time, anyway this has made me slightly worried about the state of affairs I have got myself into, I spoke to a neighbour who said they had a factor set up a while ago but it fell through. They had gotten in as the front door has a 'services' button that basically works 24/7! this is !!!!!! as it means anyone can get in.
I'm keen to get a company to manage the block and pay £20 a month with the other flats but what happens if a flat simply refuses to pay? Does anyone have suggestions of firms I could phone to get there help with managing the property? I hope this place doesn't depreciate instead of increase in value .
I'm a little worried so any thoughts on next steps would be great...
