  • thanks Reaper - that's the confirmation I was looking for. Will look into both, but likely select some funds with HL. Not too sure where I'm at with ETFs and a bit of reading other threads on here makes me think that whilst the running costs of ETFs seem to be cheaper, the costs of getting them in the first place can easily outweigh that saving too.

Before you get too far down any route with any particular platform, bear in mind that it's more difficult to open a share dealing account as a trustee rather than an individual. The market is much much smaller and the costs for the suppliers are higher (for example they may wish to see and get an opinion on, the trust deed).

    Indeed. And for what?

If the whole purpose of an advert is to gain business then one that we have no idea of has clearly failed!

HL are very good for funds but are expensive for shares. You can choose funds with low TER but this doesn't include dealing costs for shares within the fund so a fund with high turnover will cost you more money. At least with a tracker you are not at the mercy of the fund manager choosing which shares they want to buy & sell.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
