    Never easy is it !!!!.....

    Well........

You have highlighted the cancellation procedure for their optional "payment protection insurance" which does give you 30 days cooling off.

The motor insurance you have bought does only have a 14 day cooling off period and is subject to a cancellation charge!

Someone previously posted advice on this earlier in your thread:
You need to read the policy to find out the cooling off arrangements. Most on line companies let you download their policy to read before you buy.

Looks like I've just managed to lose myself £25.

Thank you for pointing out my newbie error Quentin.

Can anyone please advise if this is suitable as a cancellation letter?
    Many thanks
    Dear sir/madam,
I hereby wish to cancel my car insurance with immediate effect, Policy Number ******* (taken out on Friday 06th May 2011), in accordance with the 14 day cooling off period. I acknowledge there is a £25.00 administration fee associated with this action.

Additionally, please cancel any current or pending credit agreement associated with this policy which is no longer required.

Please confirm in writing as soon as possible.

No need to mention the cancellation fee.

You need to return the certificate, so mention it is enclosed, and send the letter recorded delivery.

OK, I thought they may stall by trying to warn me about the fee, but OK, I'll add what you suggest.
    Thanks Quentin

ps: I never singed any credit agreement, is there anything I should be aware of regarding this?

    OK I now have:
    Dear sir/madam,
I hereby wish to cancel my car insurance with immediate effect, Policy Number ******* (taken out on Friday 06th May 2011), in accordance with the 14 day cooling off period.

Additionally, please cancel any current or pending credit agreement associated with this policy which is no longer required.

Also find attached the policy certificate as per the terms and conditions of the policy.

Please confirm my cancellation in writing as soon as possible.
    Thank you.

    Reporting back as promised;

Sent letter off to insurance company on Saturday, called them today, they confirmed receipt of the cancellation letter (and documents) and charged me £16 for the approx. 1 x weeks insurance plus the £25 administration fee (completely my fault for not reading the small print properly).

Have just taken out 12 months insurance with Tesco for £200 ( ! ) less than any other insurer PLUS another £100 reduction after simply entering my Club Card Number!

Very pleased. Many thanks for everyone's help.
    Thank you Quentin.

By the way, for anyone else looking to renew their car insurance, I just though I'd also add that unbeknown to me at the time, Tesco are seemingly only taking into account accidents which occurred in the last 3 years, as opposed to 5 years as with most insurance companies I've had quotes from recently. This is another reason my quote was much lower than most.
(I only found this out after purchasing my policy and downloading my documents)
