Steering wheel locks as driving!!

Hi all. I turned a corner and the steering wheel locked on, so in a split second panic I just turned the wheel forcefully and it clicked back ok again. It was only a light lock as though a pin is stuck.
It sounds as though the indicator has something to do with it, its like a click rather than a loud lock when the car is parked at the steering lock comes on. If that makes any sense.
Do you think I could look at it myself or should I take it down to the mechanic? And what do you think it could be..
Thanks guys/gals

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

One for a mechanic if you ask me!!!! It could obviously be very dangeruos if that happens when you;re going round a tight bend and something is coming the other way!!!0 -
