MOT retest 10 days
Options
Top link on this page - Is the MOT poster
Can anyone confirm give their opinon on this please?
If an MOT test failed on Thurs April 21st and the car is taken away for repair. You have 10 days to return it for a partial retest
Do you have a right to a partial retest no matter what the fail items were i.e. they don't have to be on that list?
The 10 days start with "day 1" being the working day after the fail date.
*Working days are any day excluding Sat Sun & Bank Holidays.
*It would not matter what days the MOT station was actually open
A fail on April 21st 2011 'Day 1' would be 26th April
Day 2 - 27th April
Day 3 - 28th April
Day 4 - 3rd May
Day 5 - 4th May
Day 6 - 5th may
Day 7 - 6th May
Day 8 - 9th May
Day 9 - 10th May
Day 10 - 11th May
If the MOT station does not agree what evidence would you put before them to make them listen?
* I have not researched the bits in bold they are only my understanding, VOSA does not explain it.

you are right on all aspects.. working days are just as in "bank working" days. I just had the same issue.. had the re-test today!0

If the garage in question is open on the bank holidays then they could say thats a working day.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
-
Depends on the reason for fail though. Say a suspension spring or steering joint was the cause of the fail a full retest
would apply because stripping those parts could affect other items which will need to be retested.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
my mistake in my earlier post, working days do not include saturdays, sundays or bank holidays even if the test station is open.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

A partial retest must include an inspection of:
• all the failed items plus any other associated
items that may have been affected by the
repair; and
• any testable items that were advised on the
initial test, as they could have deteriorated
with further use.
Also note in the various documents the use of "for which a fee may be charged" meaning it is at the discretion of the garage, they do not have to charge. Many try to convince you that the regulations mean they have to charge the retest fee. My test station will not charge as long as it is brought back within 10 working days.0 -
There is only a set list of things that qualify for a partial retest. There are other things which require a full retest.0
-
The set list only applies to vehicles being returned by the next working day for a free retest.0

2 years ago a friends fiesta was failed on the rear wheel bearings, top mounts, and exhuast middle.
they didnt retest the brakes after i had to dismantle it to get the rear bearings out they did not look at the wishbones or drop links track ends when i had to remove the front suspension disturbing them. they looked at the receipt put car on ramp spun rears wheel and shone the torch up at the front mounts and that was that. had a pass cert printed on my way.0 -
No, still only a partial. From http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MoT%20-%20Issue%2032%20-%20July%202006.pdf

This is the main justification for paying the normal price for the test. Garages offering a discount on MOT tests will try to claw back the profits somewhere.0 -

I think it's something worth factoring in to the decision making process, whilst this MOT station charges £25 for a test, I'm certain they will also charge £25 for the partial retest.
Maybe in future if I find a garage offering £35 - £40 full test with a free partial retest I might go with them instead. But there would be no point in going with a garage who charges full fee (for me) as two cheap tests is still cheaper than full fee.0
