Moving house - can I just change my address on contents insurance details?

Or do I have to cancel the current one and get a new one for new property?
I'm in rented so only take out contents, is there a simple change of address/details that can be done or not?
Also I'm unsure how it works with regards to monthly direct debit payments if I have to cancel policy - I'm assuming there will be a fee....

It is only a bargain if you need it!

You need to inform your insurer of the new address.
This may involve a premium increase or a reduction. (Depending how the new area is rated compared with the old one). Also expect an admin charge for making the change.
As long as the insurer accepts properties in your new area, then your policy should just continue, with an amended monthly dd if necessary.0 -
You will definitely need to inform your insurer. The premium would depend on the location of the property, how safe the area is, types of locks, neighbourhood watch area, burglar alarm etc etc.
The premium might increase or decrease but its not a simple change of address.0 -
Thank you both I will give current insurers a call in the morning, (asked on here as phone lines not open right now) and inform them I'd like to change address details. Area is nicer (I live down quite a dodgy street at the moment) but I don't mind paying a change of details type fee. :-)It is only a bargain if you need it!0
