yes, he says he rents the house, the whole house for 1200 a month. he then rents 2 of the rooms out for a particular price which i presume is the average for the area and a price the lodgers are happy to pay. they are his lodgers

Doesn't it depend on the type of rental contract he has, whether or not, that is legal?

thats his business, he is asking about whether to charge the other person i n the house (his girlfriend) rent. unless he says so, i would assume that he is declaring the excess income and has got his landlords permission

    I charge my BF rent.

I pay 450 a month for my teeny flat, then i pay all bills myself (totalling about 300 a month)

I take 400 off him which is roughly half - but that includes all shopping/food/laundry etc etc.

I think it is only fair he pays? I lived here on my own before he moved in hence why everything is in my name.

I think she should pay half your rent and half bills.
I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler

I don't like to assume. Maybe he has permission, and maybe he doesn't. If he doesn't, it is possible that he is unaware of the implications of doing so without landlords permission or the correct contract.

Anyway, doesn't look like the OP will be back, so not much point saying anymore now.
