Uninstalling Norton Internet Security?

Hi there,
I've just installed AOL broadband on my desktop PC. When I bought this it came already supplied with a free trial to Norton Internet Security. The free trial has expired.
The AOL broadband comes with McAfee Personal Firewall so my question is should I uninstall Norton Internet Security and if so how do I do so?
Although the free trial has expired it does keep popping up with things quite regularly.
I tried right clicking on the icon on the bottom left of the screen but when you ask it to disable it only gives an option to do this for a number of hours or until you next restart the computer.
As an aside, AOL comes with the free McAfee Personal Firewall and also with a free Spyware programee. Is this pretty much all I need/should have or would anyone recommend any other protection to add?
Any help very gratefully received!

If it was me, I'd lose Norton in a heartbeat.
All you need is a firewall, antivirus and spy/malware programs; all of which can be obtained free and are perfectly OK for the average user. Check out the stickies on this forum.

By the way, as far as I can tell you'll need to use a norton uninstall utility to get rid of the blessed thing. Someone will come along and point you in the right direction.0 -
You should be able to do it through Add / Remove programs, if that doesn't work look at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/docid/2001101612274407
I wouldn't install McAfee either, I use Kerio firewall (free) and Avast (virus protection). Though Zone Alarm and AVG get a lot of shouts here too.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
I agree with the previous posts, AVG & zone alarm are perfectly adequate & offer as good protection as paid for security suites such as Norton. As for Norton, yes you should uninstall as two running at once could cause conflicts, I doubt the add/remove programmes utility will get rid of it all, look for a dedicated uninstaller. Some will give you the option of a free trial period, long enough to get rid of Norton0

Don't install McAfee, unless you want to slow down your PC. Plus its only a firewall, not antivirus.
There is a removal tool for Symantec/Norton Antivirus/Internet Security. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=
Note it will remove Norton software you may want!0 -
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice. As ever I'm indebted.
I'm off to act on some of this now to try to get rid of Norton. I wish I'd posted these queries before downloading the McAfee as I just assumed that would be fine as it is backed by AOL. I must say I have noticed that getting online since installing the broadband - and the McAfee - yesterday seems to take longer than my old dial up!! I wonder if this slowness is attributable to the McAfee?!
Is the McAfee equally as difficult to uninstall?0 -
Vultura,
Many thanks for your post, just a quick question, you say it may uninstall Norton software I want - can you elaborate at all? Sorry to be dim. Basically I know nothing about the Norton other than it was just on the PC when I bought it. I'm not aware of any Norton softward I do need/want.
