Oven and Hobs

HI,

I'm looking to get a built in oven and hobs. Definitely wan't gas hobs and I'm open to suggestions as far as the oven goes.

At present there is a gap (for a freestanding oven/cooker).

It's 600mm deep x 600mm wide

What exactly do I need to buy?

Cupboard housings/worktop bits?

I've tried google and the forum, but had no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

    Hi daggy,

Sorry no-one's been along to reply. I'm not much help either, I'm afraid, as I just needed to get white goods when I moved into my house. You could try this though: http://www.magnet.co.uk/design-your-kitchen/ - it's an online planner. Some of the other big retailers might offer an online kitchen planner as well, you could put your measurements into it and see what it comes up with.

I hope this helps a bit - I just didn't want to read your plaintive appeal for help and ignore you!

Good luck with your kitchen. xx

You would need a 600mm oven housing if it is a single oven you want (built under double ovens do not need one). You would also need a peice of plinth and to replace the worktop as the hob is cut in to the worktop. As for brands Bosch/Neff or Electrolux/AEG are good, Miele probably the best but costs a fortune. Would suggest an electric fan oven. Built in gas ones are not common and do not have a great reputation.

Because you will need to replace the worktop it maybe a bigger job than you think. You may need to remove the bottom row of wall tiles if you have them.

I used always to be a gas hob fan too. However, since researching and now bought an induction hob, gas is now history.

Thanks very much for your reply, Ruth.

That looks like it would be useful, but I'm on one of those internet dongles (moved home and still haven't sorted sky out) and my tinterweb is crazy slow... cant seem to load it up :(

Sorry I didn't reply the other night, clicked thanks and then got distracted :)

    Cheers cddc and spirit

I do wonder whether I'd be better getting a freestanding one, the only thing stopping me is the aesthetics of them.

I read up on induction hobs and a few people (scientists) say they can cause health problems, having said that.. a gas stove could burn you so I don't really worry.

Induction would be awesome, but I only want to spend around £400.

An electric oven sounds great, but with gas hobs if at all possible

Health problems? However can they give any problems? It's just a magnetic way of conducting heat with the pan. Much faster than gas and so much easier to clean.

You can spend an absolute fortune on them if you want. Mine came from IKEA and was (still is) £299.

    Hmmm ikea...

I've spent many spondoolies there recently.... don't encourage me :D

Erm yeah, read a few posts by physicists suggesting that they can be dangerous to people with pacemakers.

These physicists were prospective customers and conducted the checks for their benefit... having said that, I've no idea of their credentials

AFAIK they can't give you any problems; just exacerbate them

I'm not overly worried about that though
