An online check for ccjs is £8 per defendant - this will show you any other registered ccjs (and most importantly whether or not they are "satisfied" ie paid)

    Google trustonline for details.

As far as the defendant having any money to pay you - is it a company or an individual? If it's an individual you could do a little detective work and see where he lives/car driven etc. Not conclusive but would give you an idea.
Well, we went to his house, where we bought the car from. He sells cars on Ebay. He has parts for cars delivered at another address. His house is a terrace in a pretty run down part of Birmingham, but he had 3 cars parked in his front garden and another roadside. He is a trader, but don't know how much of a one if that makes sense, it could be that he gets by on buying and selling and no other dayjob.
He didn't tell me he was a trader, I found out via my Paypal receipt - which I think helped win my case.

Thanks very much for replying - much appreciated.

You could cause him some headaches with a call to Trading Standards and local planning dept about him trading from home and HMRC over his tax/VAT status.

I would leave this option to last as you dont want TS or HMRC geting in there first for any monies he may owe them and then you will deffo get nothing going by the sounds of the dealer.

Presumably not an owner-occupier? If in doubt you can check who owns the house at Land Registry online for a small fee.
