Cheese gone mouldy - in its sealed pack and in date

Hello,
I went to get some cheese out of my fridge only to see through the packet that it's gone mouldy. It is still in date (for another 2 weeks) and is still sealed. It's Sainsbury's own brand.
I'm not someone who can do eating mouldy cheese, if I take this back to Sainsburys will they refund/replace? Obviously it wasn't bought like that and I expect in-date cheese in it's sealed pack to be of the standard at which I purchased it.
I wasn't impressed - went to top my jacket potato for lunch with cheese only to see immediately that that wasn't an option grr!
Just wanted to check where I stand before going back in with it.
Thanks.

I've taken stuff back within date when it was mouldy and had no problems with a refund/replacement. If you don't have a receipt and its not own brand it might be a bitmore tricky, although if you used a nectar card/credit card you can prove you bought it there. Unlikely that they will quibble either way, for the sake of goodwill0

If it's a hard cheese, just cut the mouldy bits off - it's fine.0

Agreed that Sainsburys are v unlikely to quibble and will just refund the money - of course that doesn't help you with your urgent jacket potato situation :rotfl:.
It's probably nothing to do with quality control, more likely that other customers have glad-handled the item and damaged the packaging in some small way before you eventually bought it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Thanks the_cat, it's Sainsburys own-brand cheese so will take it back in.
chesky369 - at the end of the day I paid for a a whole pack of cheese, not having to cut of all of the edges and lose several slices of cheeses. I really can't "do" mouldy cheese!Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

I know - I had to improvide and switch to using some cream cheese to do stuffed jackets rather than beans and cheese. D'oh lol!Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

I agree, take it back, Sainsburys are very good when it comes to returns, and I certaily wouldn't cut around the mould and eat the rest of it, you should get what you paid for.0

I used to be the dairy manager in a supermarket and very occasionally I'd find cheese that was within date but was mouldy in the packet. It usually happened because there was a tiny, tiny hole somewhere in the plastic. They should take it back fine, I always would have done along with a huge apology to the customer!£2012 in 2012 Member 141!

it will do you no harm scraping off the blue bits, you do not have to take slices off, so no loss in weight.
In future if you want to ensure that the pack is sealed, present each corner of the pack to your mouth, suck intensely, if you taste cheese then reject, and try another pack until happy, then satisfaction should be guaranteed.
Of course, instead of buying the cheapo stuff, go to the deli and buy the premium.0
