Having Multiple Credit Cards

I Currently have a Halifax credit card (had it since September 2009, all good, no balance etc but continue to use it for fuel etc just to show i can re-pay money).

Now i've just bought a house and need to do some serious splurging as you do when you buy a house and ideally want a credit card that has 0% for 13+ months, ideally from Tesco (double fuel points ;))

Now is it wise to close my Halifax credit card before i apply for the Tesco card or should i run have two credit cards at once or apply for Tesco (presumably be accepted) then close my halifax card?

I dont often apply for credit and my most recent credit check was the mortgage one which flew through.

I've read (not here) but on the general internet that closing a credit card can have an adverse affect on your rating, now im not sure if this is bull crap or not but i don't wanna hard my rating.

Any advice is appreciated.

Phil

Only you will know how good bad or otherwise your general credit rating is - but this being good wont guarantee that you will get a 0% card. Best thing to do is keep the original card open, apply for 0% card and if this is declined then just use the original card and pay off asap, or save the cash and do things a little at a time

Ok. Im not too worried about my credit rating to be honest.

It was more whether having multiple credit cards has an adverse affect on your rating or not.

More than 3 possibly might start to have a slight negative effect on your ability to get future credit with some companies. But its more likely future potential lenders would be looking at the total amount of credit you have & amount of debt you have, rather than just the number of cards.
