I've been in barbados for a few xmases over the years and it is lovely not having to do the 'rounds'
Now i have my own son and would love to go away most xmases, infact we might be going to greneda next xmas, it will be with about 15 people so i'm not sure how stressless it will be!

Having lived overseas for a number of years in a Muslim country it was nice that Christmas was just another working day. However should you wish to celebrate you can do it the way you wish without all the commercialism that has built up other the years.
My first return to the UK for Christmas in 5 years was quite a shock at the excesses that had come about. So as Christmas these days is pretty much a glorified eating and drinking binge, I definitely wouldnt miss the present Christmas celebrationsm including decorations coming up in October - and the depressing X more shopping days to Christmas.

  • I'd skip it for sure, although if I had kids it might be a bit different.

  • Christmas was meant to celebrate the birth of Christ and as a response, to give to those in need - not greed! Think about the starving peoples when you're tucking into your turkey!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I love Christmas - all my family together. I would never go away even if a free holiday was offered to me!
The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie
  • I don't celebrate Christmas (for religious reasons), but for the majority who do, why not delay Christmas by 2 weeks and buy everything in the sales. There is even a higher chance of snow! Well, erm, maybe an extreme money saving step too far. Better to stick to Martin's advice about buying everthing on credit cards and claiming the difference in sales prices.
  • I would, and in fact I am. I am off to South Africa on 21st December, and get back on 31st. I'm spending 9 days at a large cattle and game ranch in the Waterberg, Limpopo Province. You can keep the figgy pudding, I'm off to the sun! :D
