    Two little experiments.

    1) I'm at risk at work. Good chance I'm going to be laid off with 40% of my level being given the chance to "shine elsewhere". Been there for a good while and hopeful a good package will be agreed if it comes to it.

    2) Our longstanding tenant has given notice and we're going to "test the market" by attempting to sell before we look for another tenant. Willing to pay for a small void to see how we go but if interest is poor then another tenant it will be!

I'll let you know how it is "out there".

Good luck on both fronts, sorry to hear about the potential redundancy.

Remember,... no more sickies for a while!

    5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)

"Well, something bad might happen to you between now and when you retire in 20 years, your wife might leave you and take half your money - ner ner, ner ner ner". :D

Why not offer a little more constructive advice, like getting one of those interest only repayment mortgages that you recently spoke of ?

    :rotfl:

And if you really want to go back over old ground, why not mention the (100s of) inflation proof savings accounts with protected capital ?

    :rotfl::rotfl:

With all that inflation proofed interest, you could buy your Mrs a nice pair of shoes, some nice chocolates, or a weekend break, then you may avoid the loss of half of your money. :T (Not forgetting the money you'll save with that rather "special" mortgage deal).

good luck JB - a similar thing happened to me. i haven't worked for 4 months, lost a tenant but a new tenant came in and he wanted a 2 year contract for his family and no break clause on a slightly higher rent. very happy days.

as for work, i'm making the most of my time off taking as many holidays as possible and enjoying myself taking my time.
i'll be looking for work soon but my income streams are good so no rush...

Thanks for the luck. Our savings already mean we wouldn't get any means tested benefits. Not sure about tax credits. I'll cross that bridge if it happens.

But remember you can't touch savings if they are not yours alone to fund a problem which is yours alone, accepting money off loved ones for the greater good of the couple makes you the scum of the earth remember...

On the flipside hope it all works out for you and the house sale goes well (if you want it to really go that is).

    Still bitter eh Percy?
If you dish it out you really should learn to take it back, especially from parasites like me.
Otherwise I fear an internet forum really isn't the best place for your delicate mind.

Gee thanks. And I wish you all the best with paying back your debts (if you don't prefer your partner paying them that is)

Any news on the job front, JB? Has your employer given you a timescale that they are working to?

I should know what's in store by end of May. I'm not running round like a headless chicken yet. As I say, 60% of my level are staying. It's likely (although package not yet agreed) that any redundancy would be over £50k for me so may well "do a chucky" and have a few months off.

Didn't realise. Best of luck whatever you decide chucky.

Exactly, you gave it out and I just gave it back, all is equal in the world. :D

You will be glad to hear our plan has gone perfectly and we will meet our goal in the next few months, both jobs also look perfectly secure right now so the bigger plan is still on target.

As I say hope this works out well for you, I have been close to losing my job in the past and know its not a nice feeling.
