Farse whilst changing bank account's *please help*

Hi

I am a new member and would really appreciate some advice on the situation i am in right now;

It started around 2 monthgs ago when me and my partner decided to get a joint account, we decided upon a lloyds tsb account which meant us both switching from HSBC. We went into lloyds and discussed what we wanted with them and they were very helpfull explaining all we had to do was give then details of our employers, Direct Debits and our HSBC account and thgey would do everything.

the first thing to go wrong was my credit card bill (which is normally a direct debit) wasent paid. Lloyds sent us a list of direct debits they had set up and this one was deffinately on the list along with all the rest. My credit card company charged me for missing a payment and the direct debit being refused because they had tried to get it from my old account which is now closed.

Then it came to the 15th which is normally my pay day however the money never came into my account, when i asked work they supplied me with the account they had paid it too, which was the old account, they said Lloyds had never been in touch to tell them of any change.

work have said that they cannot pay my wages into my new account untill they have it back with them, which is fair enough however they said it would take around 2 weeks and when i questioned the bank they said 2 days was more realistic. however work still insisted they couldent do anything for 2 weeks.

It was now been 7 weeks since i was last paid and we are nearing our overdraft limit and im not due to get paid again untill the 15th and now work have said it may be the 15th before i get next months wages.

I don't know who is to blame or what can be done about it but we are going to have to pay overdraft charges plus we have ate into saving just to pay the bills and i dont know if there is anyway i can reclaim any charges made.

Both the bank and work seem very unco-oprative and i would really like some advice on what to do next as i feel as though i have been wronged

Any help or advice is appriciated.

Sam

    It would be your responsibility to notify your employer of a change of bank account. Lloyds are unable to amend details such as these on your behalf.

    Likewise with the payment of your credit card. As direct debits are set up for collection well ahead of the payment date. There will be a cross over period when changing bank accounts where it may be necessary to make manual payments.

    A few observations.

    You have to inform your employer of the change of account.
    See http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/switching_bank_account_to_ltsb.asp?WT.ac=HPprodSwitcher

    If Lloyds provided you with a list of DDs that had been switched then they had issued instructions to the companies concerned. These are all done electronically. It is more likely that the card company did not act upon them.

    Why have you closed your previous accounts? It is not sensible to have done so at least until the new one is up and running for a few months.
