Save big on BT's Unlimited Anytime Plan

My parents got a letter today asking if they wanted to continue on the BT Unlimited Anytime Plan for another year at a cost of £5.20 per month (allowing anytime calls and calls to selected non-geographical numbers). The letter stated that if they did not renew, they would charge £6.20 per month if they joined later.
We checked the BT website, and they were actually charging new customers £4.20 per month for the package. So we called the number on the letter that asks you to call should you wish to cancel (08000857430).
BT have now dropped the charges to my parents account to £2.20 for the year, a saving of £3.00 per month - a 58% saving!
Don't just renew - phone and ask for a reduction!

I got the same letter and phoned to cancel telling them I am fed up with them raising their line rental all the time (now nearly £14 per month) They spouted something about call charges or calling plan charges not sure which had gone down so it works out cheaper... I said I want to cancel and also will be changing broadband supplier at the same time and they weren't even bothered, didn't try to keep me with them and I have been with them for years!
Last year they offered me a deal to stay with them for another 12 months which seemed a good deal at the time but my bills never reduced and because of the never ending increases I have had enough lol

Now need to find new suppliers!

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
