Help re house offer (person claiming to live at my address)

I received this morning a bundle of paperwork from a local solicitor re a purchase of a property and the guy claims to reside at my address. This is not the case. I contacted the solicitor which the paperwork came from and have returned the paperwork. I also contacted the police and as yet no crime has been comitted as no money has changed hands etc. This guy who claims to live at my address has to turn in ID and confirmation of address details etc within 10 days from the date of the letter etc. How would he be able to do this? He may have lived here in the past, I'm not sure but he doesn't now so how can he offer on a property and claim to live here when he doesn't. I have also contacted the PO to tell them exactly who lives here and not to send anyone elses mail etc. Nothing much else I can do. Anyone got any advice. I will be concerned if the guy can provide proof of residence at this address for sure. Rather concerned but all I can do is wait and see.

could it just be a mistake re: address?Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0

The address is stated throughout the documents, letter, offer etc etc etc. I called the Solicitor and the secretary that answered seemed quite concerned when I said that no one of that name (on the letter received) had lived at the address. There is also letters of several different dates with my address stated on them, with reference to this guy who's put the offer in for the property (not cheap either, over £100k) that had gone back and fore between solicitors etc.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. That quite scary isn't it.
May be best to post this on the house buying/renting board see if anyone else has similar experience.0 -
CAn you speak to the solicitors and ask them for some reassurance as to why this happened, and how its progressing. They will not give you data but if you explain your concern....0

I agree with the above post - you need to speak to the solicitor acting for this "seller" and seek confirmation that the sale is not going through. They might have just got the house number wrong.
When you originally purchased the property, did you received confirmation from your solicitors that your title had been registered?? Go though your old files and check. or you can go online on land registry to bu a copy of your tiltle docs to see if you are the current registered owner. it will only cost you about £3. for your own piece of mind.0
