What speed do you do on a 3 lane road with a 70mph limit, where the left lane is stationery and the other 2 lanes are free flowing then?

Well, certainly not 70mph - in either lane - because in those circumstances (which, it has to be said are extremely rare) it is very likely that someone will get fed up and pull out into the middle lane possibly causing a middle lane occupant to have to swerve into the outside lane.

Moving past any lane of traffic that is intent on travelling in the same direction as you, and is currently stalled, at much more than 30 mph is dangerously stupid and would certainly cause you to fail an advanced driving test.

It's not rare here, it's every weekday morning. We are always in the middle lane and everyone does normal speed (50+) in the middle and right hand lanes.

There is a sign 500 yards away from the roundabout which indicates which lanes are open so that's rubbish.

    No there's not....

Can you just clarify: Is the inside lane composed of traffic waiting to turn left (or join a slip road to the left)?

I cannot, for the life of me, picture a situation where there are three lanes of traffic all wanting to progress forward and the inside lane comes to a complete stop whilst the other two continue at 50+.

I cannot believe that there are that many drivers doing 50+ next to a stalled queue of traffic to their left unless it is very clear that they are all intending to turn left.

Assuming you're talking about going down the A38 across the Tamar Bridge into Saltash then I can assure you there is!

Historically there never was, but there has been a sign there for a few years now. It's perfectly visible on google maps streetview!

You were maybe going a bit too fast but the van shouldn't have pulled out like that, it was the van driver that pulled the silly maneuver and risked his own and your safety. The cars behind were driving too fclose to you if they had to emergency stop so thats their own fault.

As for reporting the driver, just ask yourself truthfully would you report someone for doing the same thing in their own car, or are you only going to do it if you can potentially get them into trouble with their company? If the answer is yes then do it.

Just double checked street view and there is a sign, but I've never known it be accurate! Lol.

    Will double check tomorrow :)
