Argos Customer Service!

UPDATE: I received a very appologetic letter in the post today enclosing a £10 voucher!! Will spend my voucher but doubt I will use Argos again after that, or will use a different store. Didnt have to write to the chief exec or anything, the letter came out of the blue, maybe a little late, but a £10 voucher at this time of year is very helpful! Thanks for all your messages!

Hope this is ok to post here but I am having the hardest time with Argos and just wanted to let off steam.

The last time Argos had their voucher promotion on I went in and spent just over £100 and there were signs still up in the store to say I would get a £10 voucher if I spent £100+. I didnt get my voucher at the till so I asked the girl behind the collection point about it and she told me the promotion had ended the day before. I pointed out to her that there were still signs up about this and she went off the take them down and spoke to the manager who said in a very loud voice in front of ALL other customers and staff, "I took ALL the signs down MYSELF this morning, there aren't any on display" and with that he walked off.

The girl who was serving me was very appologetic and and very very nice but I wasnt happy with the way the manager had spoken and asked if I could speak with him, my understanding was that if the signs were still up, I should still get my voucher. The manager came out and I explained to him about the voucher, he stormed off, grabbed one of the signs that had still been up in the store, pointed to the bottom of the sign that showed the closing date and said "I dont care if this WAS still up, it has a closing date on it and you ARENT getting a voucher" !!! With that he walked off!!! I was infuriated with the man, ok, so the promotion was over but he didnt need to speak to me in that way.

I got home and emailed Argos to complain about the man, explaining how he had spoken to me and the member of staff who was helping me, and they emailed back and said they were sorry that I was unhappy with the store and would I go to the store and take up my complaint with the store manager who would be more than happy to help!!!! I replied that they obviously hadnt read my email as it was the MANAGER I had a problem with. They replied that my email had been passed to the relevant department to be dealt with and I would get a reply shortly, this was about three weeks ago and I have heard nothing!!!!! I am so angry with Argos, I will never use them again. Are they this bad all over or just in my town?!!!

Anyway, moan over, thanks for listening!!!!

Phone head office, or write to the chief exec. I know they take customer service really seriously - and will be gutted a customer was treated so badly. DONT go through customer services - go higher!
  • Was it definately the store manager who spoke to you or just a duty manager? It may be worth ringing the store and checking that out - if it was a duty manager and not the store manager, then the store manager will sort it out for you. Or if it was the store manager, get their name and go into the ask someone in the store to ring up the customer services complaints for you. It saves on your phone bill and they would take that very seriously and you would get on the spot action in the store. Third way is to write a letter - these tend to be taken more seriously than emails - cc a copy to the store and see what kind of response you get then. HTH and for the record, none of the managers or staff in my store would speak to a customer like that. We pride ourselves on having compliments about our customer service rather than complaints. :D

I always have poor customer service whenever I've needed to return anything to Argos. I thought they were famous for it?

I've actually given up with them now and shop elsewhere.

  • Thanks guys, think I will write them a letter then. I really dont care about the £10 now, I just want this man to do his job properly! and I'm sure it was the store manager.

As others have said. First find out he if was the manager and then go as high as you can and make sure you CC everything to the store manager aswell so he knows he's gonna get a mouthful off the area manager.

If it was not for Customers argos would be nothing, it's stupid they think treating customers like this is the best way forward.

A customer treated well only tells 1

I had the same problem when they ran this offer last year. I simply demanded a full refund of the goods I purchased, there and then, very loudly to embarrass the Manager in front of the customers and walked out £100 richer and them a £100 poorer. For the sake of £10 was it really necessary for you to be spoken to like that?

I also had the same problem when joining a very large queue for some goods and there was noone at the jewellery counter. The assistant at the jewellery counter called some people from my queue over, to serve them but told me very rudely, "I didn't mean you, you can go back to the other queue". I told her to go to hell and walked out, they were the poorer for it. I was absolutely livid. I also now shop elsewhere. Manners cost nothing and I would not expect to be spoken to in a manner that I would never use on anyone else.
  • Sorry you had such a bad experience.
Obviously caught him on an off day but he should not be working in retail
if he talks to people like that.
To answer your question, no they aren't all bad.
I shop mainly in the Wisbech store and all the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful, often beyond what they are actually required to do.
Never go to Peterborough any more though! Never had any help there at all - quite the opposite!
  • just to echo what other peolpe have said about not going through customer services - theyre a pain in the rear end and dont help at all apart from certain people.

i cant believe it was a manager that spoke to you like that - i get annoyed enough when a normal member of staff is rude (because i usually have to put up with the complaints after because im usually on the customer service desk) but to think a manager just kicking off like that is completely wrong.
