Well I have my son on my car and for just me it would be £240 but with him as well it is £510 but he has passed his test and I did not have him on it before he had.
When you have passed your test take the Pass Plus and you will get a discount. The cheapest cars to insure are small engine cars but you will have to look nearer the time because the quotes have a huge range. We priced a Fiesta on Martins page and for a 20 year old the quotes were from £800 to £2000 it also makes a difference if you are male or female because blokes pay more.0 -
Thanks
Well i am Male, that seems reasonable, how long was your son insured for?
I am looking to get a basic Group 1 Vauxhall Corsa 1.00 -
He is still on mine until he gets his own car and I think you get a better deal if you take out a yearly policy, if you click "insurancesupermarket" just above where it say "thread tools" near the top of this page you can research with it and get quotes.0

elephant.co.uk give young drivers a full year no claims discount for every 10 months insured.
But when comparing their quote you need to remember that it is for 10 months not 12. The advantage is building up NCD faster0 -
Elephant lol
Filled in 8 pages online

Hope we're allowed to plug our favourites on here. My 17yr old daughter is taking test (2nd time) next month. Tried elephant et al however Virgin was definitely the one. Fully Comp with no excess, courtesy car, legal and windscreen for a fiesta 1.3 for £1,100.
It was the no excess part that I liked!Integrity is a dying art!:p0 -
i recon something between 1200 and 3000 sounds about right depending where you live. That was the case when i passed 4 years ago. It will be less in your parents name.0

I hope you read the small print carefully, often youll find a mandatory excess hidden in the policy. Certainly when i was on my parents insurance it was 0 excess for them but 500 for me.0 -
A screanscraper such as moneysupermarket or confused.com can be useful to comapare quotes quickly.0

I was about to buy insurance with churchill but reading through the small print it had a compulsary excess of £500 and a vol excess off £250! and when my cars only worth £1000 whats the point in going fully comp!!!0
