Norwich & Peterborough Basic Acc- Customers Please!!

Hi all,

Husband was declined for a basic account via the internet with N&P.
I rang today and asked about basic accounts and I would be quite happy to be with them as they offer a cheque book facility...I asked about criteria and she said that N&P could offer accounts to those with an IVA or ex Bankrupt and we *should* be acceted be it could go one of three ways..

Accepted
Declined
Referral for underwriting.

Anyway...I applied for a joint account (really unhappy again today with Natwest, they've not actioned a simple request) and it was referred for underwriting. I stipulated on the phone that it had to be a basic account (hubby has 1x CCJ- Oct/Nov 2005, cleared & 3x defaults & is with Payplan) and I gave them this info..The lovely ldy on the phone said she ould put it through to underwriting as a basic account ONLY no debit card and no overdraft.

Has anyone who has opened this account in similar circumstances been accepted?

I'm OK credit wise (I think...) No CCJ's, a few (2) defaults from 5+ years ago as a student and I recently passed a credit check for a new mobile phone contract but was declined for an Egg Card - although I'm employed part time, I'm also a student which I think goes against me slightly...

Any experience would be appreciated!

I held a Norwich and Peterborugh basic account with the cheque book, had no problems opening it and had only been discharged from bankruptcy for six months.

    You should have no problems.

    Good luck
