I'm not quite sure about the levels of DLA they may be scrapping but I do know that everyone will be re-assessed regardless of having an indefinite award or not.
Also DLA will eventually be replaced with something called PIP (Personal Independence Payment) which I'm sure will be even harder to get than DLA and most likely be a lesser amount but that's just my own opinion not fact.
PS here's a link to a recent discussion here on MSE just recently https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2911468 - there's also another link on that thread to further information.0 -
PIP payments will stay in line with current DLA payments, there will only be 2 care levels with the equivilent of lower care being scrapped so that it's similar to attendance allowance. You will be contacted when you are being transferred over to PIP and will have to attend a medical.0

I receive lower rate for both mobility and care DLA.
As a result, I am able to live a relatively independent life.
If/When my DLA is cancelled, then I will in all probability end up in a a care-home - which will cost the government more than my lower rate DLA!
This won't happen of course....before 2013 I will have my 'medical' with ATOS to transfer from IB. I will probably be found to have made a miraculous recovery that neither my GP nor my specialist has noticed, and be declared fit for work and put on JSA with no IB or DLA!
(Sorry - I'm having a rather rough morning!)0 -
If you're seriously on the verge of needing a care home then I think you're on the wrong rate?
I'm on middle care, low mobility and I'm nowhere near care home level, if my DLA stopped I'd need to pay for a home help out of my own money which would mean getting less help but I wouldn't end up in a care home.0 -
Hi Prinzessilein, as others here have said the DLA will eventually be replaced by PIP and the rates and eligibility will change. Nobody can tell you exactly what will happen as the government haven't released full details - we will all have to wait! There will be no way of comparing PIP to DLA as such as it will be something new and there will be nothing to compare to!
You say you can live a fairly independant life on low rate DLA, but then say that if this ends you will end up in a care home. This sounds rather dramatic as GlasweJen says - you are probably on wrong rate of DLA if you require that much care.
Do you receive care now through your GP or other healthcare professionals? What about a button around your neck - there are different schemes with different councils that if you get into trouble you can press the button for assistance.
No one here can tell you exactly what will eventually happen as it is unknown. I don't see any point in looking over the net to see whether you can find answers - you won't until it begins to happen! Eligibility and details about PIP for the new system haven't been worked out by the government yet - well, have not been released yet as far as I know!
There will be those who are turned down (wrongly) and there will be others that will be successful without problems - just as outcome of DLA seems to be now.
I am on High rate DLA indefinitely at the moment and have had to sell my house to move to a bungalow and move to be near family for my care needs. Yes I do worry about the changes as many others, however, you need to try to put it at the back of your mind until it actually happens otherwise you will make yourself ill with worry.0 -
ALL an indefinite award means is that you cant be re-assessed for the first 12 months after the award, after that they can re-assess you when they like, fixed awards i.e for 3 or 4 years are fixed and i suspect when it comes to medicals for dla from 2013 for all claimants and the change to PIP they will be done as and when re-assessment is due,or in the case of indefinite awards when they feel like it.
But bear in mind 2013 only gives them 2 years for atos to do 2.6 million ib to esa transfers so i think 2013 is optimistic0
