Problem with resolving Default

Options
I'm having problems with a Default on my Credit Report. Basically I bought a laptop almost 2 years ago as part of a mobile broadband deal with T Mobile. Shortly after I bought the laptop I had to deploy to America for a 3 month exercise. While there the first monthly payment was due to be taken but T mobile had messed up the date I wanted the direct debit taken out and this caused the first payment to bounce. As I had no way to get in touch with T mobile to resolve this, things went from bad to worse and ended in the account defaulting. When I got back to the UK I contacted T Mobile again and they informed me that the account had been passed on to a Debt Collection Agency. I got in touch with them but they had no record of me and told me to speak to T mobile again. T mobile again told me it had gone to the debt collectors, who again said they had no record of me. This kept on going and I have never received anything by post demanding any payment. I basically gave u8p in the end and ju8st forgot about it, which was probably a bad idea as now after many problems trying to get credit of any kind I checked my credit report and discovered that this Default is still there. What can I do? Do I have any rights?
