I buy from ebay shops quite a bit, and I often need to ask after parcels at my local sorting office.

If something is overdue for delivery, even if I've not received a red card, the sorting office is my first call. It's in my best interests, so I can't understand the OP buyer's attitude. The seller has done everything they can to acheive delivery.

I think it is as above. Some of us are lucky and can either pop into our local office or get them to answer the phone. My own office will not answer the phone, they just have it permanently on answering machine and never ever respond to queries. I am lucky in that I visit my office most days so can ask, but for people like my mother who has a disability and does not drive a quick 5 mile round trip is compeltely out of the question.

Do not word it the way a seller that recently TOLD me to goto the post office. They are lucky i did not leave a negative.

Only open between 7am and 12 midday. Plus the costs getting there and back. I would be really ....... making a wasted
    trip.

I do wonder if i have missed a delivery everytime i see the letterbox open.

I have never actually left a negative, but I have been really tempted to when TOLD to check the sorting office.

My experience is that more and more sellers are being slow to send out, and when I very politely ask them when the item was sent then I am usually ordered to check the local office, which is not possible for a number of reasons. However I ask my postie, who checks for me (he is a sweetie) and then the package will turn up, with a date on the postage after the date of the enquiry.

After so many experiences (I struggle to get out, so if it isn't delivered we don't get it and all sorts get delivered here), when someone tells me to check the sorting office my tolerance for problems halves.

However I do think it depends on how it is phrased. A 'do you think it could be at the sorting office, are you able to check?' would be fine with me but an abrupt, 'check your office' doesn't really impress. Regrettably I have only had the latter sort of suggestion.

Problem is, if the seller rather than the buyer checks with the delivery office checks and the parcel is there, then how the heck is the seller supposed to telepathically know when the buyer will be in for redelivery?

Strangely enough I didn't bother to check as I've refunded the buyer anyway.

I love some of the responses though - I did say in the OP that I "ask the buyer politely if they wouldn't mind checking with their local delivery office in case RM have tried to deliver while they were out and it's been taken back to the depot" - I do appreciate that buyers don't like being told to do anything. ;)

How would they know though who was claling though? If the delivery offices refuse to talk to anyone on the phone, and maybe they do, then that surely proves the futility of us sellers suggesting our buyers phone them to ask anything.

  • A fair point that I'll remember in case I have any similar issues.

In simple terms if no card is left call the office and see if it's there, if it is contact the buyer and ask when redelivery would be convenient, call the office back to confirm.
