Advice re MBNA payments please

Hi, two questions here.
First, my payment for this month - it's by DD - was due today, so I expected MBNA to take it out last Thursday. Nothing. Just checked online banking and it's not showing as a debit on my bank account.
MBNA online however shows payment received today. <head scratch> does this sound normal?
Second question is about future payments. I want to pay the minimum by DD, it's due on the 2nd of the month. I also want to make an additional payment each month. Not sure how much it will be yet, and I'll be paying it by bank transfer. When do I need to make that payment to avoid getting into a mess like the ones I read about here when people do that? Is it best to just make the additional payment on the same day the minimum goes out?

It doesn't matter when you make the payment. Once the statement has been produced and they have informed you of the amount and date, then those details are set in stone and they'll take the minimum DD no matter what you pay...even if you clear the entire balance manually.Second question is about future payments. The above is detailed on their website, in your DDI confirmation letter, and on every statement. You probably missed it?

Thanks for the clarification.
On the second point, I keep reading posts here that say they paid on a certain date but then MBNA claimed the minimum payment hadn't been received or something similar.
I've had MBNA cards for years but have never tried to do this before - pay the minimum by DD then a bit more later in the month. I'm just trying to avoid having any problems as this is a 0% deal and I dont want to mess up and end up losing the deal.
Sorry if it sounds like a s stupid question but I really couldn't find the answer on any statement.
I'll go away to the naughty corner right now :rotfl:
Oh and I don't understand why I don't see their debit on my current account - but I suppose all that matters is that they are showing it as paid. Back to the naughty corner ;-)0 -

Sometimes MBNA payments are due on either a Saturday or Sunday, or in this case on a bank holiday Monday.
In this case payments are taken on the next business day: it says "on or after......(date)", but are credited
to your account on the Saturday before.
Nothing to worry about, the DD will be taken tonight in the early hours.0 -
From the MBNA FAQs...Oh and I don't understand why I don't see their debit on my current account - but I suppose all that matters is that they are showing it as paid.
"Next day" should say next working day in my opinion. How do I make a payment?
...snip...Your direct debit payment will be taken regardless of any additional payments you make, credited on your payment due date and collected from your bank account on the same or next day.
The reason you can't see the DD on your bank's online banking is maybe that Tuesday's batch run hasn't completed yet?0 -
In my experience MBNA seem to take the money after the weekend/bank holiday when it is due on one of those day.
For instance mine was due on 2nd May, but has been asked for today, showing as a pending transcation for today.0 -
Just to update - the payment is shown as deducted from my bank account today, the 4th. If MBNA try to hit me with a late payment charge and/or take away my 0% deal, will I have any redress on this?
fozmcfc - I've never diligently checked the payment dates before so if you've experienced them doing this before, I assume it's ok and I won't be charged.
I really expected it to go out last Thursday, very surprised its gone out today0 -
