Problematic car purchased with a credit card

On the 1st May last year, my mum purchased a second hand car from a dealer using her credit card which came with a 6 month warranty. Pretty much from when she had the car, it has had a re-occurring fault where all the electronics on the dash board suddenly cut out which then leads to the car turning off. This was not specified as a problem with the car when it was sold. The car had been back to the dealer on numerous occasions within the first 6 months of owning it with the same problem, and each time they claimed to had fixed it. But the fault occurred again relatively soon after each time they looked at it. The service my mum received by the dealer at first was pretty shocking, each time she got the car back they would just say that "its got a new part in it and should be ok now", (they never said what they replaced). The last time she took the car back to the dealer (just over 6 months ago), she managed to speak to the owner, and she insisted they take it to a main dealer to get a proper diagnosis of what the problem is, which they did. They found something that was "more than likely" the problem but if it didn't solve the issue, then they have no idea what is wrong. They fixed it and the dealer gave my mum an extra 6 months warranty for all the trouble she has had. The car had been fine in the last 6 months, then today, 1 day after the warranty has expired, the exact same problem has occurred again.
My mum has said that she has now had enough of the car as it seems this problem is going to be re-occurring, and considering it was not stated as being a problem when she brought it, she wants to pursue to get her money back. I personally don't think shes going to get anywhere with that. The then asked me about the protection that credit cards offer and would this apply in this situation. Again I'm not so sure but I thought I would ask on here for any advice anyone has to offer! Can her credit card company act to get this problem sorted?
