You can do London - Leeds via Birmingham on Virgin, just takes forever!!

I've applied for some London - Edinburgh, be nice for a cheapy weekend away

You can do London - Edinburgh and Leeds - Edinburgh (I was on the train that did this only last weekend) but you can't do London - Exeter (unless you went via Birmingham which would be madness). Virgin do go on the East Coast Mainline but only on their cross-country trains and only north of Leeds / Doncaster.

You should check that the route you ask for is valid otherwise it will just be a waste!

They will just fill trains that are not likely to sell out, so if you are applying, i suggest mid-week, and go for PM trains, more likely to get empty trains... Also, apply for valid routes, that dont need a change.
