I'd thought about that but FF 4 has been getting some bad reviews so I was reluctant to do it.

it is a bit of a mess i agree! / Try Opera 11 too -- and it's way better than FF ;)

You could delete the actual FF folder on the C drive where its settings are stored. Then, choose to start FF again and the folder will be recreated and completely fresh. I know that this happens a lot with FF - it needs to be 'reformatted' from time to time. the folder i think is located C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\. IMO delete just delete that (BACK UP YOUR BOOKMARKS before hand tho)

Would be better IMO to just use "Firefox -p" and create a new profile and keep the old one there - that way you still have the old profile to refer to if you ever need to e.g. for obscure passwords.

I had an add-on switched off last night and it seemed to fix it. I'll switch it back on tonight and see if the problem re-appears. The add-on makes me money however so I'm reluctant to lose it and may end up having to live with it.

    Thanks all.

It may seem odd to include this, but what operating system are you using?

    I'm on Windows 7 64 bit, and using I.E.
I get these freezes now and again, and when I open 'Task Manager', I find two copies of I.E. running.

Open TM and see if you are getting the same.
Not to forget, in my case, it may have some link to using Win 7 64 bit, as some sites can't manage the I.E. 64 bit yet.

Pretty sure it was the add-on as it re-appeared last night when I enabled it again. I'll contact the supplier and see what they say.

birkee: As per first post, I'm running Vista and Firefox.
