Im currently in my 2nd yr of uni, i have no motivation whatsoever and never want to go into uni! my works piling up and i have no want to actually do it. Ive spoke to my parents about it and they just give me the whole " think of how much you'll be earning when you finish!" but i know that I'll scrap through so is there any point in me wasting another year and a half!!
its getting me really down, as I dont know what to do! I want a house (even renting would do me) but everyone is just contradicting me!!!!
I HATE IT SOOOO MUCH! please help
p.s i have good gcse and a levels grades, more than most of my friends have!

I am not sure what you are actually asking .....
You need to look at why you want to leave Uni :
-Are you on the wrong course
-Do you not like the Uni itself
- Are you struggling academically
Etc. Etc.
More importantly, do you know what you actually do want to do ??
A lot of people know what they don't want, but are not sure what they do want.
If you fall into this category, you really need to do something constructive - and continuing with your course may be the best option until you know what you want to do with your life.0 -

Based on your first post my perception is that you simply have no motivation to do any thing university related.
If this is the case then I would suggest that you seek guidance from your lectures and/or support staff at the university. Then if you have decided 100%, leave and pursue your dreams etc....., after all there is no point in being unhappy.
It is however important to ensure that you have a follow up plan before you make any decision.
If the lack of motivation is a general thing that you struggle with, I would be concerned that you don't just sit around and not move on if you left. Make sure that you have a follow on plan in the pipe line before you make any life changing decisions.
I suppose that I should as to close, why are you forced to stay??

i am able to motivate to go to my part-tim job and missed out on moving onto a supervisor because im at uni and the hours wouldnt suit!
but my daddy reckons that i got asked to take on extra responsibilty because I AM AT UNI and it shows " im a cut above the rest" i just dont want them to be dissaoppointed in me! for my placement in jan i am trying to get into working in the NSPCC so i see this as an option and if i do well in Jan my be asked to work for them (but only when i finish my degree, no doubt) i just hate work!! ie, essays etc!Hi, my names katrina and I'm a spendaholic!? My DD has just been through this and as her mum I felt the same as your parents except I remember being 18/20 and knowing my own mind, you can't make someone motivated by spouting platitudes.
DD had a meeting last week with her tutor, they have allowed her to withdraw for the rest of the academic year to persue her career options, if it doesn't work out or she regains the motivation to carry on she can go back on the old fee system and start again as a 2nd year. I feel better about it and her tutor said she feels she is wrong thinking she can't manage the work but only she can motivate herself, sensible tutor ( the fact that I told her to seek this meeting weeks ago will be swept under the carpet) and she gets most of her fees back for this year.
I have told her she needs a fulltime job by early January as none students contribute to the costs of living here.;)
Good luck sorting it out I am sure your parents only want what is best for you.0 -

It's your decision about what to do, no one can force you. What degree are you doing? Only everyone told me 'think of how much you'll earn when you finish'. I finished and then found I'd be lucky to earn more than 13k with a first from a top uni (I've since done more than 3 years study to try to rectify that but to be honest I'd have been better never going to uni!).
Anyway I've been in this situation so many times. My parents always said if it was too much I should just give it up, and they'd do whatever they could to help. I hated what I was doing about 1 year ago. Came into uni every day and did nothing all day, then went home again. It was awful I had no motivation and was so stressed I made myself really ill. But then something changed, I think it was a talking to by my supervisor, and now I'm really enjoying it.
Not long ago I never thought I'd be where I am now. I wanted to give up, and the same thing might happen with you if you can just work through it.0 -
Hi Katrina
Like you, I had very good A-Levels/GCSEs, and that can put you under pressure to do 'what everyone else does' and go to university, get a graduate-level job etc.
After a gap year I took another gap year as I couldn't motivate myself! I've since done an OU degree and, at 26, now have what could be considered a graduate's job - and have as much in savings as a lot of people my age have in student debt
My point is that just because you're clearly bright doesn't mean you should go down the traditional route. If you did chose to leave uni your first year needn't be wasted - in a few years time you might decide to count that towards a degree you do feel you want to do, maybe full time, maybe part time or by distance learning. You can often count the credit towards the new degree.
All that said, I wouldn't advise you to leave without having a firm idea of what you're going to do instead, and without talking through your options with the university and your parents.
Keep smiling :beer:0
