HELP: Carpet burn

HER

I need help. My families gone abroad and had a few friends at my house.
One of them accidently dropped a cigarette on the carpet. I dont think the burns gone straight through but its certainly obvious at the moment.
Havent cleaned the area yet, looking for some urgent advice first please.

Take a tuft of carpet from somewhere less noticable - at the skirting board for example, and stick it over the hole. I did this myself about 20 years ago!0

What sort of carpet is it? If it's mainly wool, a stiff brush should get rid of most of the burn.0

Did you get caught;)0 -
Its not wool its like a flat fibre carpet.
No havent been caught yet. Family abroad at the moment on holiday0 -
Polyprop or nylon will melt. From what you describe this carpet is a natural sort which is made using a continuous thread of fibre going across the width, so replacing a tuft is not the way forward.
However, if you can manage to get about 1/2 to an inch of the same carpet(possible bit of waste in the loft/garage) you could cut the offending thread either side of the burn and carefully insert the new thread from the waste pushing it through the backing with a large needle and apply a little copydex glue to secure it in place.I have nothing better to do!!!!

Done those repairs a couple of times over the years....good results.
With man made carpets here now not to good to repair that way...unfortunately although the 'kids' leave home they come back again for more revenge...One said daughter needs to iron an item...knocks iron on carpet...immediatley the iron burns the impression of iron base on NEW carpet......she did offer to pay for damage many many times...don't u just love um....GGGGGGGGRRRRRR

This reminds of when master tru was 2, he was playing with my iron - it wasn't plugged in lol - and he managed to get the safety plug thing out of the socket, plug the iron in and leave it on the carpet  It was loop pile, man-made and we were in a right panic because we rented the house. We just cut the burnt bit out, used it as a template on a spare piece and patched it. The landlord never noticedBulletproof0
