on the other side, the back, half of it is up against the porch which has sort of bannister spindles (not sure what they're called on the porch) in the way, so im trying to squeeze my hand through them to paint and of course the brush marks are dreadful. i dont like things looking bad

If all else fails keep a rag or some kitchen roll in your pocket and if you get paint on the hinges etc wipe it off quick. For the floor and wall taping some newspaper or an old shower curtain (£1 in Tesco!) in place will stop any drips discolouring the surface.

its not just getting it on the hinges, which im wiping off of course, its the look of where someone has painted up against something and the paint doesnt sit evenly around the edge, some of it is flowed under the join of the hinge and wood and other bits it hasnt. i hate that look.

Can you use something like a radiator paint roller to get at the awkward bits. They're not expensive and ideal for getting to the places other brushes can't reach.

I need a new shed. Perhaps I'll try your method next time, as never thought to do it that way before.

Paint the bits that will be up against the wall (or whatever) first and do the bit that shows afterwards. Alternatively do the whole lot first and touch up after.

Theres a major part of this problem. :D
So which is it? Do you paint first or not?
