Replacement battery for my HP laptop

I am getting a warning message on my laptop. Says "there is a problem with your battery, consider replacing it". I have had this laptop since 29 December 2009 ... so is 16 months an acceptable life for a battery? I almost always use the laptop plugged in, indeed this laptop has never been out of my home.

I did a search on ebay for a battery, but I could not find a "genuine" HP battery, they all seemed to be "HP compatible". Is this OK?

Thanks in advance for help/advice.

Ive had my battery in for 4 years now and never had a problem, use it through the mains for about 99% of the time.

I wouldnt blame you if you were miffed.

Try an independant and then price compare.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Source a geuuine battery on eBay but leaving it on the mains doesnt do the battery any good. If you never take it out of the house, then remove the battery.

Yes, battery doesn't need to be connected if you have a stable power supply.

not a good idea to permanently leave it plugged in from mains/ u need to 'drain' (deplete ) the battery every so often/ I tend to drain mine every 5/7/ days and then fully recharge ///

    As above
You shouldnt leave it charging all the time. I too let my go right down to around 5-6% on average
And you really should souce a genuine HP battery. Anything less and you will almost certainly have problems
