what causes cracked glaze on washbasin ?

Had new bathroom installed by builders approx 15 months ago, now the basin is showing cracks in the glaze around the overflow, which look like black biro marks, just had normal use etc, what could have caused it ? intend to contact builder for replacement.

    Sound like a manufacturing fault.
    Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

    I agree with phill99, it certainly shouldnt be doing this.
