Banks getting revenge after you have claimed

Reading over at CAG and came across a post whereby having started to reclaim bank charges, the bank had taken money from this persons bank account to pay for their over limit credit card. (£700).
Can a bank actually do this as they are seperate accounts and credit agreements?
This has put doubts in my mind and have to be careful in which order i attack each bank.
But similar can this happen to loans with the same company or a subsiduary.
I have a credit card with Co-op and upon missing 1 payment they sent me a letter stating they had charged me and i failed to get back under my limit due to this charge so they suspended all use on my card. I am paying the miminum payment but can not use it in any way. I also have a loan with Smile which is a subsidary of the Co-op. I certainly dont want to reclaim this money back if they are going to demand me to pay my loan off.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, im just getting everything in order and plan getting my money back that the banks have fleeced of me.

From what I gather they are separate agreements - and as such it would be unlwaful for them to claim money back from other agreements just because they felt like it. However in the case of being over the limit/missing payments you'll probably have a clause in your contract to say that if you miss payments then they have the right to get their money from other accounts they hold with you - so if you're paying ok, then it should be fine0

With my Co-op card im about £100 under the limit and never defaulted on the loan so i should be ok.
Not much money to claim back here so going to use this as i trial run for my others.0 -

I would ask them if they are freezing any other charges while your card is unable to be used. I fell into this trap too, missed a payment, then got charged for it taking me over my limit, then they charged me an overlimit charge, which my minimum payment wasnt even covering not to mention the interest mounting up, so from a £200 limit my card racked up £500 worth of charges. And yes the lady in the avatar is me
