Has anyone got an AMEX gold card? Quidco offering £60 cashback and also card feed is £70 for first year. So total cost of £10.
Included is a bonus of 20,000 points (2 return tickets to Europe with BA).
Seems like a good offer to me - What does anyone else think?

A lot of people (like me) have it for the BA Miles earning potential.
There is a £1000 spend requirement in first 3 months to get the 20,000 points.
You also get double points at most supermarkets and petrol stations in your first 12 months membership as well.
This isn't a credit card - you have to pay the account IN FULL every month.
It was better before 1st April 2011 as, used in conjunction with the OLD Paypal Top-Up-Card, you could get 40,000 Points in 12 months without actually spending any money at all.
I would say it is only worthwhile if you are a dedicated BA Miles collector - spending BA Miles on short haul European economy tickets is a waste of time, points and money, because you will often pay as much in fuel and tax surcharges as you can buy a ticket with another airline for anyway.
BA Miles should only be used for long haul flights in Business or First, to get value out of them.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I always pay my credit card in full every month so this will not be a problem!

What about other rewards? Waste of time?
Basically I went through a cashback website and the first yearly fee is £70, and 60£ cashback - so cost of card was £10.0 -

So did most other sensible people!
You will probably have to chase the cashback and the bonus points, several times, unless Amex have sorted out the shambles that they created last year when they launched this.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Just remember, as withabix mentioned, if you do use the 20k for BA miles you will have to pay all the fees and taxes with the ticket as well - so its not a "free" return like you would get with airmiles.0

Would the Virgin upgrade for 20,000 points completly cover the upgrade or would there be extra charges?
Thanks0
