    It's certainly possible.
If you have enough time it's also possible to get significant (££££) grants or sponsorship (from local companies or funds) to put on a children's opera, which is what an acquaintance of mine has managed to do.

Have a look at this site for some ideas.

When I ran an out of school club, if someone came offering an activity or I heard someone might be able to offer an activity, I'd expect them to be able to outline what they were offering, eg type of music, how many hours, what was needed etc. But I'd also expect them to be able to give me contact details for at least one, preferably two, people I could contact to ask "is this person good at doing what they're offering? are they OK with this age range? is there anything I should know?"

Thinking carefully about your suggestion and disccussed with my husband, I think I will start contacting one or two school nearby. Planning to offer one hour training each week and see what the school say. I have be working with children so working with primary and secondary school children is fine. Reference is a bit tricky but I can sort this out. I will talk to them in person see what happens.

You might think so, but I go to a Wellbeing choir - turn up when you can, leave at half time if you're shattered ... We have two leaders and an accompanist, and what they get out of us is terrific! despite the fact that not everyone in the choir can sing naturally ... We do occasional concerts - we work out who will be there, we vote on what we'd like to sing, and we go for it! It's fantastic.

For that I'd expect they would want you to have some qualifications and stage school experience.
Having stage experience as solo singer, but no qualification as I learnt in my spare time, with a top national professional singer though.

    Appreciate your suggestion, Sue.

I will PM you. They were all local to the choir so probably not much use outside the area, but they included:
    prominent local businesspeople
    large successful employers
    a local college
    a large car dealership

  • Most schools have the singing teachers organise the choirs and then perform in festivals. Maybe you should do a business as private singing lessons?
