I am currently working full time but i am being treated for depression through my doctor with medication and therapy, i cant afford to not work but as i am really struggling to do my job due to how i feel i wondered if anyone can advise on anything that might help financially if i was put on short or long term sick such as benefits or any thing.
I have all the usual bills associated with homeowning such as mortgage etc but wether i work or go on sick leave the bills still need to be paid and i really am in a predicament with my illness knowing ideally i need to get better by being off work.
i am not a sponger by the way as i have worked all my life since i was 16 and i am now 32 but this problem i have is crippling my ability to function at all, let alone work, so advice would be grateful.
thanks

If your doctor says you are unfit for work then you can go on sick leave.
In terms of pay and benefits,
firstly have a look at your employer's sick pay policy, many employers pay full salary/half salary for a fixed period of time when you are off work due to illness.
If eligible you will receive upto 28 weeks occupational sick pay (if applicable)/Statutory Sick Pay.
You can apply for low income benefits such as income support, council tax benefit and (I think) Support for Mortgage Interest whilst claim SSP if your income drops low enough

If you are off work for more than 28 weeks then your SSP stops and you need to claim Employment Support Allowance. Again, if your income is low enough you can claim low income benefits.0 -
