Hi, also try https://www.gumtree.com and see if there are lets in the area that you want. Again these are private and they want people who are gonna look after their property. References from work usually suffice. Cheers, Debs.
PS; My favourite Christmas song 1s "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas " (Original version) for good reason!! Have an old fashioned Christmas, not a commercialised one, and you'll probably enjoy it all the more! Will your OH be on overtime rates if he's working Christmas/ New Year?0 -
Gosh it was busy here last night. As mentioned thanks button isn't doing its job, but the support and advice is really appreciated.
Feeling a bit more positive this morning after a bath and a good nights sleep and a chat with OH. He's got the afternoon off and is going to go and see the agent personally to try and see where we stand and hope to God we can get round the problem. Watch this space.
Just some questions/doodahs:
- I'm going to reduce the payment on my OD right down to £10- I have to pay something in regularly otherwise they start getting funny with me, but there's no lower limit.
- Verbatim. B/F was actually cycling home from work a few times a week until a month back when his bike rather inconveniently got stolen (He also suffers from sciatica which can be a bit of an issue when it flares up). Theoretically he could walk (its about 6 miles) but at 2am this kind of weather I wouldn't really wnat to suggest it. Anyone know how much a moped/ training would be? Its a possibility I guess.
-Seaxwyn- do you have a link to the pensions discussion you mentioned? I'd be interested to have a look at that.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again to everyone, you've no idea how grateful I am, really. Just nice to be able to chat to people who aren't judgemental. I'll let you all know what happens!"People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

When I worked for a chain pub a few years back, my taxis were paid for me by the pub on account. Maybe your OH should try asking about this.
I worked for Whitbred, if this helps.
And def try to speak to the LL direct - you haven't said specifically and I don't have much experience of these types of things, but because you have failed the credit check, you've been turned down to let the property?

This Ive come to know...

Maybe you could tell us where you're based - you just never know there might be a private LL on here who needs tenants where you are or someone might know someone....stranger things have happened!

they don't as a matter of course apparently, although they will for managers if they work public or bank holidays, which is a bit useless right now!
Anyway- seeing as you suggested (shot in the dark) we're living on the outskirts of Chichester (West Sussex) right now, wanting to move to Bognor Regis.
Just had a text update from my OH: He says he's just spoke to our current landlord who's agreed to have a brief word with the agent, and he's going to try and get in touch with the potential new LL to plead our case!

Hiya,
I just wanted to update everyone who was nice to me in this thread. We negotiated with landlord and agent as you suggested. Unfortunately the landlord wasn't willing to let us the flat, BUT on the plus side (sort of!) the agent has agreed to let us have £200 of the £250 we gave for referencing back. So all is not completly lost after all. PLUS... got a letter through the post yesterday morning telling me I may be entitled to a tax rebate (which is nice)! So in a much better place head-wise now- and just wanted to thank everyone for being so supportive when I was in a panic!
