The thing that been playing on my mind is your moving etc etc so you OH is closer to work.
Ive assmued a few things here. You say your in a fla so I assmume you live in a town or city. Its been noted that your Hubby has to travel a lot and by expensive meals. But he works in a pub. WHat exactly does he do.
If hes the landlord don't you geta rflat over the pub or nearby at least.
If he does anything else surely theres a closer pub within walking distance he could get a job doing the same thus saving the travelling expenses and possiblilty of walking home for dinner at a much closer pub.
My only other suggestion is to look at a Debt management plan with CCCS or PayPlan. both are helpfull and it doesn't sound like you both have a great credit history you wish to keep.
One final note and im really not trying to sound nasty or snobby here just suggesting things that may help. but from your SOA you say your hubby earns 900 a month max. Surely there is something on a similar wage he can get closer to home??

RE: Block booking taxis- how many did you have to book in advance? Sounds like that might be an idea?
Private lets: We're looking into it, but they don't seem to come up very much around here, at least not in the town centre areas.
Going to try as hard as I can to negotiate getting our £250 back! If we can't persuade them to give 2nd thoughts to letting to us.
We have actually considered getting OH a bedsit or room near his work- but we've been holding out on the understanding we were going to be moving soon. At one point he was staying overnight with a colleague a few nights but that got a bit awkward after she got drunk one night and *ahem* got the wrong idea (that's all I need!)
Part time work: I'm considering it, but because I'm studying part time as well I already struggle a bit for time. I suppose it would work as a last resort, and we are getting a bit desperate so maybe I'll have a look at some of the bars around here.
£80 for food- yes this is correct- its actually a pretty generous estimate, its often closer to £60.
New Year snuggled with OH? I wish- he'll be working...
Anyway- thanks so much, I think I'm gonna go have a bit of downtime now and think it all through for a bit. Thanks for all the support. Feel sooo much better!"People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

OK, just to explain it all! OH is a supervisor in a pub (chain pub), to cut a long story short he joined as a basic bar person just over a year ago being promised fast-track promotion (he has ten years plus catering experience), and has been promised that he will be made manager in January (A promise I am skeptical about)
I do actually think it would be better for him to just find a job closer to where we are- he could possibly even get something better paid, but he's very reluctant to do so because he's concerned that his CV "jumps about" too much (the longest he's spent with one employer is two years), plus he wants to hold out for this promised promotion- and I really can't persuade him otherwise. Hiya Lady_F,
Sorry to hear about you trouble. I'd have thought you're on strong ground to get the L/L to think again. He obviously likes the sound of you in accepting what you said about your credit status before the referencing went thro' so why should he change his mind when what you said proved to be true? And your current L/L will confirm about the rent being up to date etc as he obviously rates you too, or why give a glowing reference?
As a private L/L myself I/m totally used to and (probably too) accepting that everyone has hard times. Eg I currently have a tenant who changed jobs recently and was a month behind but as he always rings to let me know what's happening and does what he promises I'm relatively relaxed about it. The fact that his previous L/L was glowing was v. important in our feeling OK about accepting himCCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
lady_fuschia, just talk to them regarding block booking. Most small firms are glad of a regular fare! Mine I booked at the start of each month for the following four weeks.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Lady_fuschia,
Sorry to hear things aren't going so well for you!
The only thing I could see to change was the £50 you pay off your overdraft, if it's 0% I wouldn't bother, pay the min payments on loans and ccs first. Also you will have a break in your CT and water in the new year so you can catch up then.
The pension, it depends how it is paid (before or after tax) as it might mean that you actually get back more like £56.
Hope the landlord comes back with some good news xSaving for an early retirement!0 -
Another thought but could your b/f cycle to work to save the fare?
He'll get fit too as my OH has discovered.:A I can feel his ribs now for the first time in years.
Is your student o/d interest free? If so perhaps just pay the minimum off it for the mo' now when you have more pressing stuff to pay?CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
I am sure you could probably run a small moped/scooter for less than OH is paying in taxis for work. Maybe worth looking into.0

Hi Lady Fuchsia
I posted a question here about opting out of the Local Govt Pension Scheme - it was a month or two back - and the overwhelming advice was to keep it as it's such a good scheme. The employer actually puts in double what you do.
I'm sure if you deal direct with the landlord they wouldn't credit check you. My friend is a landlord with 18 properties! and he just goes on gut feeling about whether he trusts the people.
It sounds as if your OH is not willing to consider changing jobs now, but perhaps in the new year if the promised promotion doesn't come about, he will see things differently. It does seem a low wage for an experienced person.
Good luck
