Attaching stones/crystals to satin dress

I want to embellish DD prom dress with some stones. It's black satin and the dressmaker who is altering the dress told me that sewing on crystals will look unprofessional and trying it out could ruin the fabric. Can I glue on some stones? If so what glue do I need etc.

Poppy - I believe you can buy specialist fabric glue. A local craft shop (or Hobbycraft - look them up online) can offer you advice. You can also buy self-adhesive 'gems', which look quite authentic. Your dressmaker ought to know about these things, but, failing that - http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/search/glue/page/3.
Best of luck - am sure your finished dress will look fab! x0 -
i would def go with pre-glued hot-fix crystals, as they are less messy
however, the outlay would be higher than just buying a pot of glue and crystals, as you need a hot wand to fix them. can usually buy one on ebay for about £15 including some crystals
i have a kandi kane one and its so easy to use (you do go crystal mad though, and rhinestone everything in your house lol)

The dress is heavy satin. Will they drop off with glue and if I use the specialist fabric glue will it dry clear?

They should stay fixed and dry clear. However, I'd suggest trying out whatever you get on a piece of scrap fabric (similar colour/texture to your dress) over a 24-hour period though, just to be sure. Hope this helps. x0 -
Id suggest hot fix crystals (the ones you can just put on with a regular iron.) You can buy a small pack first and test them on a patch of fabric. You can iron these ones on....

Ditto from me too. They are more or less permanent once adhered so they won't be pinging off all over the place.I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!

not sure I can iron them on though due to design of dress.

LOVE the dress, it's such a beautiful colour. My sis-in-law had the same colour for her bridesmaids' dresses!0

you can buy them seperately but it does mean painstakingly adding each one, i have done this for dance costumes in the past takes ages but looks amazing:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0
