He now owns nothing, lives with his new girlfiend, no job, car, possessions etc etc.

He has become a man of straw. We know why, don't we? New girlfriend sounds gullible.

I have had major problems with the CSA on 2 counts - one for myself - i have 3 kids from my ex and he never paid a penny for them fo rfour years - filled out the CSA form and still not heard a thing!!

On the other hand - OH whose ex got everything and they had a mutual; agreement regarding his maintenance decided she wanted more and go tthe CSA involved - 3 years later they still havent sorted it out! they are incompetent - every stitch of info they have asked OH for he has given them even sending recorded delivery as they have lost so many other bits of info over this time. They have taken him to court for deductions from earnings orfers for a job he hasnt done for 3 years even though they have been tol on numerous occasions. Hubby tried to agree with ex to pay her direct but she is untrustworthy as she said in court he never gave her anything for the kids until his bank statements were produced and shown her as a liar as there were cheques to her for this.

We are not all the same and the CSA should bear this in mind

  • I have had nightmare issues with CSA too. Call your MP urgently, and explain, after about 4 years I got a consolitory payment of £125 (which is apparently alot! HUH!) and another £25 for costs of calls etc. It took my MP a year of writing angryily to them before they even lifeted a finger.

I cant offer any support but the ICE acted very quickly (well quicker than a lot of them!) even though they only came in towards the end once the issues were more of less resolved, they still managed to get my phone calls reimbursed.

You can ask your MP to approach the Parliamentary Ombudsman who can investigate provided that you haven't gone to ICE - you can do one or the other. You may well get a compensatory payment from their advice to the CSA on how to get their a***s in gear!
  • Just a quick update (thanks for all the replies by the way)

Had a letter from the Legal Aid people today who have said that since we have completed a new income questionnaire for them (my partner recently started a new job) we are no longer eligible for any legal aid at all. Spoke to my solicitor who is sympathetic but said the figures are correct, we cant afford to pay for the legal bill ourselves privately so that is it. To say I am devastated is an understatement, i am ABSOLUTELY gutted. It has taken 6 months to get where we are with constant forms, statements etc to fill in and to no use as we cant go any further with the legal action. To make matters worse, I had another letter today fromthe CSA to say that they have upped the maintenance by 40 odd every month, so that makes another 40 odd quid a month added to the arrears! I really dont know what to do now.

How have they upped the maintenance by 40 per month? From your ex? Is that a new assessment? They must be able to take enforcement action then if he has had an increased assessment.

Hi, should there not be a specific proper forum thingy about the CSA somewhere between Marriage and moneysaving and Benefits I think..... so many people have problems with the CSA whether it be parents with resident kids or absent fathers ... lots of the same questions are asked on this and it is useful when the common questions are answered at the top of the forum. am I making sense?

I would personally like to have something on this site to refer to when it comes to the CSA.
  • re the increase of £40, previously the amount my ex was assessed at was £65 per month plus arrears, I had a letter yesterday to say this has been changed to £107 permonth (not including arrears) and is valid from Dec 05. I did phone the CSA to check this, the lady I spoke to said it is correct, they found some mployment details from last December for him which meant the increase. As he isnt paying anything anyway, the lady said that the extra £40 a month for the past year will be added to the overall arrears making them now £24,000. I did explain to the lady that all this was irrelevant as he doesnt pay anything anyway! She said Oh but we have set up a deduction of earnings so that will now increase. When I asked what employment details they had, it is the employer that he left in August and who have now gone into liquidation.SHe then said that they will be writing to my ex as they have traced his address to tell him about the increase, she confirmed the address they are writing to him at, I then replied that that address is the prperty which was repossessed over a month ago. Oh have you told us about that? she said. YES, 7 B****Y TIMES!!
  • Have heard snippets of the news this weekend re the CSA and am now worried they will write off the arrears owed. Can they do this? After all it is not money that is owed to them, it is owed to my children so how can they make a decision like that when it isnt their money?

You'd think it was their money when it costs them 70p to recover £1...

As an NRP who pays the CSA - I've absolutely no desire to see this money written off. It should go (as was always meant) to the children it was meant to support...

From the BBC website - about naming and shaming website:
But Mr Hutton told Andrew Marr on Sunday AM that life should be made "as uncomfortable as possible" for parents neglecting their responsibilities.
I think life is already "as uncomfortable as possible" for anyone dealing with the CSA...
