A load of lunatics on a certain other website seem to be convinced it's all a conspiracy theory, coordinated with the royal wedding, to stimulate a feel-good factor.
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Why would osama's death generate a feel good factor? He's not been in the driving seat for a few years (just a figurehead) and this will up their recruitment considerably, especially seeing images of Americans waving their flags in celebration. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his, but I think his death will have little real benefit to the war on terror ..
No idea what effect on interest rates will be!0 -
Think of it like the CEO of an organisation who has been there too long.
He/She is starting to go "off the boil" and starting to get lazy in advancing years.
Proper actions to improve the organisation and go forward to new heights has been missing for some time.
So the solution is clearly to get rid of the "dead wood" at the top and bring forward new blood to re-vitalise the organisation..............0 -
I think the key phrase is "mate down the pub".
(ranks at a similar level as scentences starting "apparently" or ending in "that's what they say")
Most economists never seem to want to predict more than a couple of percent change at any given time, so predicting >6.5% rise based on a single event is a bit of a stretch. In fact just before the rates stated falling, one of the IFA's my sister works with (I know... that's barely a step up from "me mate down't pub") bet her a Tenner the next move would be up!
Unless your mate down the pub is someone like Vince Cable, I think he's just winding you up.....
...but a decent fixed rate might be a good plan anyway
as from 0.5%, inflationery pressure coming from all over the place, and businesses not benefitting as much as the should from the low rates, you'd guess the only way is up, but political pressure on the BofE may be the thing that delays/kicks off any rise. 0 -
Dont give a crap. Just gutted he got away with a headshot. I was hoping they were going to be able to go to town on him with pliers and a blowtorch.0

Or desperate to cover up the failed attempt on Gadaffi!0 -
I wonder if a few weeks down the line when the DOW has rallied and oil prices start to come down as result of this good news that they'll suddenly come clean and admit is was a case of mistaken identity.
