usb to ethernet adapter

I have a speedtouch modem which connects to my computer by usb. My new television Sony kdl40nx703 has an ethernet socket for online access. Is there an adapter that would convert the usb plug to ethernet . My television has a usb input also but I`m wary of connecting this way as the supplied manual does not suggest it.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

You need to buy an ADSL router. Your TV cannot use the USB modem and it won't work with anything though a USB->ethernet adaptor.0

USB modems are flakey and obsolete now anyway. Switch to an ADSL router as advised, at £15 upwards it's hardly a big investment. No free lunch, and no free laptop

As above, buy an ADSL router/modem and then use an ethernet cable to plug into your PC and another one into your television. They are very cheap.

You could try ringing your internet provider and ask for a free wireless router to replace your modem.
Tell them the modem is playing up or that you are thinking of moving to a provider with free wireless.0 -
Definitely worth switching to a router modem, just for the sake of security.
USB modems don't have a hardware firewall, which leaves your computer vulnerable to all sorts of attacks. I hope if you are using Windows XP that your service packs are up to date! The last people I saw still using USB modems had worms on both their unpatched XP computers, along with a host of other malware and viruses.
I know this probably isn't the advice you were after, but it's definitely a smart move to get a proper router modem. If not, make sure you have a good software firewall like Comodo or Online Armour, and a network shield like the one in Avast.0 -
Ring your internet provider - they should be able to provide you with a free upgrade ADSL/router/modem, preferably wireless. If its TalkTalk, good luck!0

Thanks for the good advice. I am running windows xp , service packs all in place, use avast , zonealarm, and superantispyware all free. I`m with Virgin and I`ll give it a go but to my experience they are tight when it comes to giving any kind of discount. Having said that I`m paying them £18.35 a month for a connection which has not improved since they increased the price in the guise of a faster link.0
