Setting up internet banking with HSBC

Will be brief....

I would like to set up internet banking for my HSBC account (not a main account but used reguarly for wages in and cash withdrawals only)

Online it is asking for security information that I did not think i had set up so I called the helpline.

They said I have set them up in 1999 for telephone banking (I would have been 18).

If I can't remember the details I can't set up internet banking.

No chance of remembering them so is it true that i won't be able to set up the internet banking?

Many thanks

Have you tried visiting your branch, with ID, account details, etc., and asked them if they can set it up for you?

    See http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/about
Or visit one of our branches where a member of staff will give you a demonstration. They'll show you how to log on and what you can do with Internet Banking once you're set up

I couldn't remember my security details when I phoned their call centre, they advised me to go to the branch with photo ID as Baldur says, I think they asked me to take a recent statement too. They'll be able to reset the security questions for you.
Here to offer help and advice, and maybe take a little in return.

Whilst I am happy to share my knowledge, I am in no way a professional... I can not therefore accept responsibility for inaccurate info, I ask that you take professional advice rather than rely totally the info provided by myself

Simply go to the HSBC online banking login page, HSBC Login Link

Click on the Personal Log On button

Click on "Forgotten your user ID?", which takes you to : https: //www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/HSBCINTEGRATION/forgotten

They will send you your User ID

Then, if the HSBC online system is like most other bank systems, once you have the user ID, you will get access to the logon pages where you will be able to click on a link for "Forgotten memorable answer" and "Forgotten your Secure Key PIN" and again they will reset these for you.

There is a demo here : Demo

This may save the hassle of going into your branch with forms of Id.

  • Thank you- sounds simple enough! I wonder why they didn't suggest this to me on the phone!

    Cheers!

Thanks but since I haven't actaully got to the stage of setting up the internet banking, I don't have a USER ID for them to send out to me.

You said in your 1st post that you set up telephone banking in 1999 - I have assumed they would have setup the User Id at the same time because you would need it for telephone banking too (Same one used for online banking I believe. ?

    P.S.
I edited my earlier post to include a link to the HSBC login demo

Oh ok Thanks- I didn't realise it would be the same User ID. I thought they were just talking about security questions.

I think I will call them back and ask although they are a pain to give me too much information since I can't answer the security questions when getting through to an agent! lol

HSBC's user id is for online only - on the phone they just ask for account number etc - onine it's in the format of IBXXXXXXXXXX
It's the security number that has been forgotten - suggest you visit the branch to do it as already suggested.

I've been with HSBC for years and my user ID is specific to internet banking. Telephone banking is just done by entering sort code and account number and then entering digits from a security number. The security number is also used for internet banking, but as a password. The user ID is like a username on any online system. HSBC ones start "IB" and then have about 9 digits. I don't think OP would have one for telephone banking.
