Keep it clean! If anyone's been in the tunnel could they tell me if it's a really closed in feeling in there or if there's plenty of room around the vehicle. It'd be way cheaper for us to use the tunnel than travel by ferry but I wonder if it has a claustrophobic feeling?

There is plenty of room around the car. You can get out and stand outside the car if you wish. There are toilets at regular intervals which you can walk to.
Not really claustrophobic at all, you can't really tell you are on a train!0 -
its boring , nothing to do - also i would take the ferry if you book in advance you can ge cheaper
i did not like being on the eurotunnnel ..

I found the eurotunnel trains far less claustrophobic than the eurostar trains and I am claustrophobic.
There is room to open your doors and get out of the car and once you're going the journey goes pretty quickly, you don't get the feeling of being in a tunnel, you're moving so quickly
If you're travelling with children the ferry IMO may be worth the extra, depending on how far you're driving the other end. The eurotunnel is quite restricting and boring for them and you drive straight off onto the motorway, whereas they can have a good leg stretch on the ferry if you have a long drive ahead.
If it's just adults I'd choose the tunnel everytime, it's so quick and easy. We booked ourcrossing in July using Tesco clubcard points and only paid £16!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

You're not really on there long enough to be bored. Lots times better
than the ferry, you just drive on, open the thermos have your coffee
and drive straight off on to the French roads. just a pity I run on LPG
and can't use it in my main vehicle.0 -
I nearly fainted when I first went on, it was really hot, and I don't cope well with heat that well, or at least internal heat if that makes sense, but that said it's quicker and easier. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

Its fine to be in, you can get out and walk round the car, go to the toilet if needed but ive never been, try and take something to do or read otherwise it will feel longer than what it is, iirc they used to have a radio station playing and you could tune your car radio in to listen to it
i do prefer the tunnel and would always use it, ferry can be cheaper but it depends if your good being at sea0 -
I didn't find it claustrophobic, but it is boring as others have said. There are also more delays on the Chunnel, and the ferries are often cheaper.0

if you suffer from claustrophobia then go into the tall vehical section as the train is double height - just follow all the people carriers and range-rovers ;-)0

If you suffer from any seasickness then this is THE way to travel. It doesn't stop in bad weather ( ferries often do). There is nothing to do on the train but you arent on it for long. If you travel on motorbike then you don't have to strap the bike down. So civilised.
Most families break out a snack and emerge refreshed.

I'm clautrophobic and was fine on the le shuttle. There are vents around the carriage and it blew cold air in. Its around 20 mins door to door. TBH I prefer the Eurostar to le shuttle but its manageable if you are claustrophobic as you can walk around, go to the loo etc and its so quick. I would take a book or your ipod and before you know it, you're there. Its doable! The Cabbage
