Suspected chicken pox and travel insurance???

Good morning all,
Just need a bit of advice, we are supposed to be off on holiday in a few days however my son (1yr old) has come down with fever and i've got good reason to believe it's the onset of chicken pox as a few children he's been exposed to have come down with it lately.
He also has dioreah and a little bit of vommiting but i think this is due to his high temp more than anything.
I want to see if he gets better but we only have 3 days till holiday (and it's a kids holiday) but i won't take him if he's still ill.
We have travel insurance with cancellation cover - does anyone know if we are likely to be covered. And what i would need to do if we do have to give up our hoilday???
Hopefully we don't but it's a big chuck of money to lose and i don't really think it's fair to go ahead and take him if he's ill and cannot enjoy a holiday meant for him and his sister.
Many thanks in advance.

If you have insurance with cancellation cover then hopefully you will be covered, this should be clear from the policy wording. Speak to your insurers directly as they are the only ones that can advise you with certainty and will also explain what you need to do in order to claim.
If this is a package holiday then another option might be to speak to your travel agent/tour operator and see if there is any possibility of changing the holiday to a later date; however as you are due to travel so soon then I'm hazarding a guess that your chances of being able to do this are slim.0 -
Hi, thank you!
Yes it is a package holiday to Eurodisney so seems totally unfair to take him if he's unwell. Our daughter became unwell out there when we went some years ago and she was truly miserable so not really fancying a repeat.
I will call them thank you, just thought i'd grab some info here first.
Do you have any idea of the protocal i would have to go through? Sorry never made an insurance claim before so it's all new and a little daunting. Would doctors be first port of call do you reckon?
Many thanks again.0 -
Sorry, I don't have any experience either but try not to feel daunted. The staff will (hopefully!) be trained to guide you through the process. If you are able to claim then I'm guessing that one thing the insurance company will ask for is a certificate from your doctor stating that your son is ill and unfit to travel. Good luck!0

you wont be able to travel if its chicken pox. airline wil refuse you travel. Chicken pox is highly contagious, it only stops being contagious when all the spots are crusted over. You will only know its definitely chicken pox when the spots come out, it took approx 7 days for them to show on my little boy and then they came out everyday for 4 days'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

We had to cancel a holiday the day before we were due to go because our daughter had chicken pox. We took her to the doctor who gave us a letter for the travel agents/insurance. Then we went to the travel agents and told them we wouldn't be travelling and they cancelled the holiday. We then contacted our insurance. We had to provide the doctors note and they charged the £30 per person excess so we got all of our money back minus £90. It did take about 8 weeks though.0

think every airline and doctor is different on chicken pox, our two got it last year in the US neither the doctors or the airline were bothered and both said they were ok to fly.0
