Old Canon UC900 camcorder not working. Any ideas please ?

Hi I have a Canon UC 900 camcorder that I bought from new several years ago. It has been put away in my wardrobe for about 4 years. It worked perfectly when it was put away. I got it out today and it took ages before I could eject the cassette and now the cassette won't go back in.... it will fit in the slot but the mechanism won't kick in, to take it all the way 'home'. Any ideas on what I can do to make it work again please.
