Car insurance - additional drivers?

Basically my partner has had his renewal quote through for his car insurance - driving almost 4 years. Last year his insurance was around £750 but his renewal is suggesting £1091 for this year, despite no claims discount.

Using price comparison sites the cheapest quote so far is around £700 with him on his own however after reading Martins guide if we add his parents it drops to almost £500 - whilst still keeping him as the main driver. Now they do sometimes borrow his car as we live close to each other (although insured on their own insurance to do so at present) - they are happy to be put as additional drivers if it reduces his insurance but can you do this as they live at a different address, Im not personally sure how it works out?

if they ask for the address of the additional drivers you just have to give it. I don't think they ask (but could be wrong)

I have my dad on my insurance ,we dont live together and they have never asked for his address

I have my parents and my boyfriend on my insurance, and we all live in different places. They've never asked for the address of any of the named drivers.

Mine just asked for his postcode, DOB & did he have any convictions motoring or otherwise.
