I have a 5th Generation Ipod video which is completely dead. It wouldn't be a problem but I was using it for storage and there are lots of photos of my daughter on it that I really want to get back.
Can anyone recommend a company to recover the data for a reasonable price?

looks like you can get an adapter to connect the harddrive to a standard ide cable in a desktop PC

Seconded on getting a cable. However they use the same hard drives that Dell use in some of their sub-portable jobbies which don't use a standard lappy sized IDE connector but a ZIF (zero insertion force) affair.0
