Hi
Im a newbie to OS, I'm 23 and recently married and I buy far too much processed rubbish so here I go trying to learn to cook.
As per a post below asking what to do with some salmon, I'm going to try and make these fishcakes ---> http://www.uktvfood.co.uk/index.cfm?uktv=recipes.recipe&iID=513891
What I want to know is can I freeze them before I cook them?
Infact, in general how do you know when you can and can't freeze something?
Thank you!!!

Yes you can, no problem

We have lots of different threads on freezing things and some of them are collected in an index. Just look for "freezing" as a subtitle:-
COOKING and RECIPES
Lots of threads which contain recipes for food and drinks that are not as yet indexed in the Old Style Recipe Collection and including other assorted tips to do with cooking. (You might also want to check out the Food section below which, while primarily about growing your own etc, does have a few recipes in there)
But to see the recipes:-

Hi ftbworried,
They will be fine to freeze uncooked as long as the salmon was not previously frozen.
The general rule is raw food can only be frozen once. It's only when it has been defrosted, then cooked that it can be refrozen.

The salmon (steaks) were frozen but since the recipe says I should use cooked salmon then the fishcakes should freeze ok because i'll have to cook the salmon first, right?
I'm really excited to start baking/cooking properly!0 -

Yes, if you're cooking the salmon then they will be fine to freeze. Good luck with making them.
